The Creator of Mario Bros Won the Prestigious Spanish Award

The 59 year old Japanese Shigeru Miyamoto, the father of legendary computer games like Mario Bros.","The Legend of Zelda" or "Donkey Kong was honored in Spain.

After hearing the Jury’s decision for Prince of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities 2012, "I am humbled by the news that I have been chosen to receive the Prince of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities," said game creator.

The Prince of Asturias Awards (Premios Príncipe de Asturias) are annual prizes that are given in Spain to the individuals to individuals, entities or organizations from around the world who contributed remarkable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs.

Initially established in 1980 by the Prince of Asturias to develop a concrete link between the Principality and the Prince of Asturias. To increase the accomplishment and innovations in scientific, humanistic and cultural areas, the prizes have been given in different categories such as Arts, Communications and Humanities, International Cooperation, Literature, Social Sciences, Sports, Technical and Scientific Research and Concord.

Many important figures are among the winners of this prestigious award. The late Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes won the Literature award in 1994 or the World number two Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal received the prize in 2008. In 1986, The Salamanca University and Coimbra University won the International Cooperation award.

Everyone has their first experiences with Mario Bros for sure and if the game has the still holding its reputation because of its simplicity, plot and the characters. Considered the "father" of modern game, has been behind all technological revolutions that have led the global expansion of interactive entertainment and promoted game modes that have demonstrated the power of the entertainment industry as a social and cultural phenomenon, as well as tool for mental and physical exercise, we can honestly say that it is a well-deserved achievement and Kudos Mr. Miyamoto!
