Celebration in Art
8th of March is the day of International Women’s Day, which is a celebration of women’s achievements in political, social and economic life. Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza and Queen Sofia celebrate International Women's Day with special activities that revolve around women.
The Prado Museum will launch an audio-guided tour designed specifically to raise, from a gender perspective, a look at some of the fundamental lines of work of women. The itinerary "women's work" will allow the public to understand the role of women in the workplace and the roles played by it, exclusively or in priority, according to the dominant gender discourses in every age. Besides this route, the Prado will reinforce the vision of its collections from the gender perspective with the celebration of the extraordinary conference 'Aesthetics of the Baroque in Women', which will be presented by Teresa Sauret, director of the Municipal Heritage Museum Malaga.
Thyssen-Bornemisza presents a program of activities with various groups of women. Women members of these groups will be providing their views on women's representation in art history through four special tours for the Museum's collections, and to establish a dialogue between women of the past and women with the art as a backdrop for a historic struggle in present.
And in the cinematographic field the Queen Sofia Museum explains how feminism is a social movement that has had an enormous impact on the theory and film history.
Also, other museums offer special activities on the day of Women, within the Festival program Views of Women, as the Museum of Costume has designed tours around historical figures such as Amelia Bloomer, Elsa Schiaparelli and Margaret Thatcher to 7 and March 8.
