The Community of Madrid and Nebrija University are collaborating to promote the integration of immigrant workers through Spanish teaching, with the project ‘LETRA’, with the aim of awarding certificates which accredit certain levels of Spanish to new residents of Madrid.

The Diploma Certification ‘LETRA’ is the result of an applied research project conducted over the past three years by teachers and researchers of Applied Linguistics in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language at Nebrija University.

The programme has so far been a great success, with a total of 257 people passing, which is a pass rate of over 85%. In a ceremony held at the University the vice-chancellor praised the project for its excellent results.

The exam has both a written and oral part in order to evaluate people’s ability to be able to understand audiovisual material, being able to read and write proficiently and communicate confidently in a personal interview.

The certificate obtained from the programme will inevitably help immigrants to find work and integrate better into society.
