Government Gives Universities Financial Boost

by Matthew Leake - Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Last week the Spanish Government and the Ministry of Education made clear its intentions regarding the further development of Spain’s universities by providing a series of funds for exciting new projects around the country.

Among those to benefit from this were the Universidad de Salamanca, the Universidad de Deusto, the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, and the Universidad de Huelva. The financial input is part the Ministry of Education’s EU15 initiative, a strategy that aims to update all universities in Spain to develop a state of the art Spanish university system by 2015.

Part of the initiative is the “Campus de Exelencia Internacional” project which has some €590 million at its disposal to modernise universities for the benefit of everyone, by creating education hotspots that will boost employment to aid local economies. Last week, for example, the Universidad de Salamanca was awarded with €5.7 million to construct its new Centre for Biological Resources and Characterisation. New developments like the one in Salamanca are springing up all over, thanks the the Government funding, meaning there has never been a better time to study in Spain
