The Department of Education has just released plans for a Professional Development Course, with a focus of Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language.
Linked to an initiative led by the Instituto Cervantes, an estimated total of 102 teachers from Manila in the Philippines as well as the University of Salamanca are to take part in training from October 25th to 29th, in Cebu and Manila. The aims of the course include encouraging a more hands on approach as regards communication and use of the resources available, especially in the teaching of grammar and vocabulary.
The focus, as ever, will be on the four key principles of learning a language: reading, writing, speaking and listening, but also the introduction of ideas regarding culture and civilisation are to be integrated into the course into order to encourage a better understanding of the country and its way of life.
